Following the infamous Wallstreetbets story a few months ago, the company Gamestop is doing much better than it did a year ago. A new website, nft.gamestop.com, indicates that the company is exploring blockchain technology using non-fungible tokens made with Ethereum.
‘Power to Players ‘
Gamestop, a publicly traded company (Nasdaq : GME), has launched a website dedicated to non-fungible coins (NFTs). Gamestop hasn’t officially revealed the website, so the public isn’t sure what it means. However, on April 8, 2021, Gamestop revealed it was hiring a security analyst but was looking for someone experienced with blockchain, cryptocurrency, and NFTs. It was believed that Gamestop would use blockchain technology in some way after the announcement.
The website was discovered by members of the Ethereum community and became a viral sensation on Twitter. The website, nft.gamestop.com, is retro-looking. It shows an Ethereum-like cartridge being installed into a Gameboy-like handheld gaming device. The device says: “Power to the players, power to the creators, power to the collectors.” The website also shows an Ethereum smart contract address as well.
The smart contract is called “Gamestop” and was created on May 25, 2021. There’s already been a few transactions sent to the ETH smart contract according to Etherscan. Website also mentions that the company is building a .”
team.
” We welcome exceptional engineers (solidity and react, Python), designers, gamers. Marketers, community leaders, and marketers,” states the website. “If you want to join our team, send your profile or something you’ve built to: nfteam@gamestop.com.”
The landing page has a small white dot at the top right-hand corner of the page that leads to an unexpected game. To play the game, players must use the space key on their keyboards to activate the race. Gamestop shares have been doing well recently and shares are up 16% and swapping for $209 on Wednesday.
