On June 1, Major League Baseball reporter David Adler announced that the MLB had signed a long-term agreement with digital collectible company Candy Digital. The oldest American professional baseball team is entering the world of non-fungible token (NFT), collectibles. They will launch a Lou Gehrig NFT.
MLB Will Launch Its First NFT With ‘The Iron Horse’ Lou Gehrig
MLB, the professional baseball organization launched in the U.S. in 1903, has announced a long-term NFT deal with the Galaxy Digital-backed firm Candy Digital. The agreement with digital collectible company Candy Digital was revealed on Tuesday by MLB reporter David Adler. The MLB will launch its first NFT with Lou Gehrig, the New York Yankees’ baseman, in a little more than a month.
“The first NFT from MLB and Candy is a 1-of-1 NFT of Gehrig’s iconic ‘Luckiest Man’ speech that the Yankees legend delivered on July 4, 1939, at Yankee Stadium, after being diagnosed with ALS,” Adler detailed. The Gehrig NFT will be available July 4th, with proceeds going to ALS charities .

MLB Commissioner, stated that Candy’s founders are “a dynamic group” with an impressive track-record. Manfred also noted that MLB is delighted to be the Galaxy Digital firm’s first partner. Candy Digital founder Mike Novogratz is a board member of the company and serves as co-chair.
” From autographed baseballs to trading cards, baseball fans have shown their love for the game through collectibles over decades,” Manfred stated during Tuesday’s announcement. “We’re excited to bring an exciting new addition in the baseball collectible market by partnering with Candy Digital,” said MLB’s Commissioner.
MLB Non-Ferrous Telecoms (NFTs) Aim to Expand the Range
Candy’s Co-chair Gary Vaynerchuk explained that he has been a “lifetime collector” for his entire life and believes creators and consumers alike will be grateful for the partnership with the American professional league baseball team.
Vaynerchuk believes that the best NFTs will be enjoyed by die-hard MLB fans. Vaynerchuk stated that the NFTs will be enjoyed by the most passionate MLB fans, who are keen to collect and celebrate the great moments of the game.
MLB’s announcement does disclose that it already makes NFT collectibles with the popular collectible card manufacturer Topps. Candy Digital can offer a wider range of NFT collectibles with its NFT offerings.
The company offers examples such as “memorabilia style NFTs or baseball card-style NFTs or artwork-style NFTs depicting big moments in the field or NFTs that highlight plays” and “memorabilia-style NFTs or NFTs of highlights plays.”
