On Thursday McLaren Racing announced that the British motor racing team has chosen Tezos to be its official partner in the Indycar series and Formula One. This will allow McLaren Racing to showcase the group’s “illustrious racing heritage” and world-class drivers. Tezo will create a non-fungible token (NFT) platform for McLaren Racing in order to showcase the motorsport group’s world-class drivers and “illustrious racing heritage.”
McLaren and Tezos Team Up to Construct an NFT platform
The non-fungible token economy (NFT), has seen a boom in popularity and world-renowned motor-racing teams and automakers are getting in on it. This week the German carmaker Porsche revealed it was launching NFT card assets called “Fanzone.” Now McLaren Racing has announced it will partner with Tezos in a multi-year technical partnership that is also focused on the NFT space.
The racing team is based at McLaren Technology Centre, Woking, Surrey. England. Tezos will be innovating the NFT industry. McLaren Racing’s director of licensing, marketing, and ecommerce Lindsey Eckhouse stated that “Tezos Racing and McLaren Racing collaborating to create a unique fan-focused NFT portal is an innovative step into an exciting and rapidly growing industry.”
Tezos, a McLaren Shadow esports partner, will assist McLaren Racing presentations. This partnership will allow Tezos to be featured across Arrow McLaren SP teams as well as the McLaren Formula One.
“McLaren is known for placing fans at the center of all we do. This partnership allows us to enter a space that fans can own key parts of our team,” Eckhouse said.
This partnership is not Tezos’ first foray into Formula One. Last month, the Red Bull Racing Honda team signed an NFT agreement with Tezos. Tezos announced that it would help Red Bull Racing produce tokens that are not fungible.
“McLaren Racing has one of the longest and most illustrious legacies in racing, and we are excited that they have chosen to bring it to the Tezos blockchain through their NFT Fan engagement platform,” Hubertus Thonhauser, the chair at the Tezos Foundation explained on Thursday.
