Porsche to Sell Exclusive Design Sketch as Non-Fungible Token

Porsche has announced its first NFT auction following the recent launch of the token-based Fanzone platform. As part of the pilot project, the German high-performance car manufacturer will sell a unique design sketch. Fundraising will be done for a noble cause with the proceeds.

Porsche to auction NFT of New Design By Peter Varga

German sports car manufacturer Porsche is launching a pilot project for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The auto company stated that collectors and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to bid on a Porsche Director of Exterior Design Peter Varga’s exclusive design sketch as an NFT between Aug. 2-6. Varga stated in a press release:

Drawing a design sketch which is then traded online as a digital object was a completely new experience for me.

The designer revealed that the sketch combines the Taycan Cross Turismo with the 911. It combines the design language of our iconic sports car and that of the youngest model in the range. Peter Varga said that he is looking forward to the reaction from this unique item.

The drawing will be available in digital and physical formats. The auction will take place on the U.S. digital art market Superrare. All proceeds will go to Viva con Agua. The Hamburg-based non profit organization works to provide clean drinking water and sanitation worldwide. It also supports water projects in countries like Uganda and South Africa.

Alexander Pollich is the chief executive at Porsche Deutschland. He said that the NFT initiative focuses on Porsche customers who he describes as “often passionate collectors” and younger people who “have a high affinity for digital trend.”

With the NFT initiative, we are once again demonstrating the pioneering spirit typical of Porsche, with which we are always boldly entering new terrain.

The NFT project is being implemented with the help of Fanzone, a Berlin-headquartered startup founded in June by the car maker’s Porsche Digital GmbH subsidiary. This new company offers an online platform that allows fans to collect and exchange digital cards. It uses blockchain technology to make sure the items are unique. Porsche stated that token holders can profit from the potential rise in value.
