Matrix Star Keanu Reeves Owns Crypto, Skeptical of NFTs, Says 'Can We Not Have Metaverse Be Invented by Facebook'

Keanu Reeves,

Matrix’s star, has admitted that he now owns cryptocurrency that a friend bought him a while ago. He said, “Yeah. I have a little hodl.” The actor made comments on non-fungible tokens, NFTs, and the metaverse.

Keanureeves Discusses Crypto, Metaverse and NFTs

Famous Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves talked about cryptocurrency, the metaverse, digital content, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in an interview with the Verge last week.

Reeves was interviewed by Carrie-Anne Moss, her co-star in “The Matrix Awakens” a playable tech demo created by Epic Games. They also discussed what to expect from the upcoming Matrix Resurrections movie. They also talked about how technology blurs the lines between real and virtual.

Reeves discussed the metaverse and Facebook during the interview. The social media giant recently changed its name from Meta. “Can we not have metaverses like those invented by Facebook?” he asked, further elaborating:

The concept of metaverse is like way older than that.

He also was asked: “Does it feel dystopian, like the original Matrix presented all of this… kinda dystopian where tech headed .”

Reeves replied, “Yeah,” adding: “Because it’s also content creation, it’s fine, it’s economic creation, cryptocurrency…”

The Matrix star didn’t finish answering the question after he was interrupted with a question about cryptocurrency ownership. Moss and he were both asked: “Are you either into cryptocurrency personally?” Reeves replied:

A friend of mine bought some for me a while back.

Reeves was asked about his cryptocurrency. He replied, “But you haven’t done anything with them?” He was then explained what hodling is. He admitted that he has a hodl.

Reeves was asked if he had seen the Matrix NFTs in the Matrix Resurrections movie. Reeves admitted that he had not seen them and asked if Moss is getting any money for them.

When asked what he thought about the concept of digital scarcity, Reeves laughed and added that they are still “easily reproduced.” You can see the full interview here.

Nike is facing a lawsuit from people who bought its NFTs

A group of people sued Nike this week over its decision to wind down its virtual show project RTFKT last year. The buyers of the digital assets accuse Nike of causing “the rug to be pulled out from under them,” and say they wouldn’t have bought its NFTs if they’d known they were “unregistered securities,” reports Reuters.

Filed in New York’s Eastern District, the proposed class action lawsuit seeks “unspecified damages of more than $5 million for alleged violations of New York, California, Florida and Oregon consumer protection laws.”

Nike tried to jump into the NFT game by buying RTFKT in 2021. But, like Starbucks Odyssey, it never quite worked out and the company abandoned the idea, announcing in December via the RTFKT X account that it planned to “wind down RTFKT operations” by the end of January this year.

Since then, RTFKT has seemingly been maintained by a single person named Samuel Cardillo, who spent Thursday posting through the sudden disappearance (and later reappearance) of artwork for its CloneX NFTs project.
