FIFA Launches NFT Platform for Soccer Fans

FIFA to Launch NFT Platform for Soccer Fans

FIFA, the international soccer governing body has announced that it will soon launch an NFT platform for all fans of the sport. FIFA+ Collect will provide digital collectibles that preserve the best moments from FIFA’s world cup games, the organization announced.

FIFA Creates NFT Platform with Blockchain Firm Algorand

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is preparing to open its new platform for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) later this month. FIFA+ Collect will launch a selection of tokens at the beginning and reveal details about future exclusive and limited-edition collections. This was announced in a Friday press release.

The digital collectibles will feature memorable moments from football matches, and iconic imagery and art from the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments. “This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectors available to every football fan, democratizing access to the FIFA World Cup,” stated Romy Gai (FIFA Chief Business Officer).

Fandom is changing and football fans around the world engage with the game in new and exciting ways… Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favorite players, moments and more on new platforms.

FIFA+Collect will be available via FIFA+, which is the digital platform of the federation that provides access to live soccer matches from around the globe, interactive games and news. FIFA+ Collect will be available in English, French, and Spanish for the first time. More languages and devices are planned.

FIFA has created its NFT platform as part of the Algorand partnership announced earlier in the year. W. Sean Ford, interim CEO of FIFA, stated that the commitment FIFA made to Algorand’s Web3 platform is a testimony to their innovative spirit as well as their desire to engage directly with football fans. In May, FIFA and the blockchain technology firm agreed on a sponsorship and technical partnership deal ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
